This course is made up of the following units:

Unit 1: Assess the origins of the Cold War in Europe to 1945

Unit 2: Assess how and why the Cold War developed in Europe between 1945 and 1948

Unit 3: Assess the importance of Germany in the development of the Cold war between 1948 and the 1980s

Unit 4: Why did the Soviet Union face problems in controlling eastern Europe from the 1950s to 1980s; and how successfully were the problems dealt with?

Unit 5: Why did the Cold war come to an end in Europe?

Unit 6: Assess the consequences of the collapse of the Soviet Union for eastern Europe in the 1990s
